General Information and First-Time Installation

There are two types of Timer Pro Licenses - Evaluation and Purchased.

When you purchase and install Timer Pro Professional you are required to enter a client code. You will find this code in the email with the download instructions. The license file will be created the first time you start the program.

The license file is named TPROLIC.TXT and will be located in the timerpalm folder on your C drive.

This file is unique to each specific PC and can not be copied from one PC to another.

The online registration process will prompt you through the process. If you do not have access to the internet you will be directed how to proceed.

Please allow 1 business day for manually processing - if you require faster turnaround please also call us - 303-220-0130.

Check the License Expiration Date

You may check the expiration date of your license by opening the Video Time Study program. Choose the TOOLBOX menu option. The expiration data will be presented above the How To Videos button.

Evaluation License

The standard evaluation period is 15 days. Requests to extend the evaluation period can be made.

Upgrading Versions and Licensing

It is only necessary to reregister the PC if you receive a message to do so when you start the program. If you download and update the system and you DO NOT receive a message to register when you start the program you do not have to re-register your license.

If you do not have the most current license format you may be asked to upgrade it. First check your
current Timer Pro Professional version by starting Timer Pro. The version will be displayed at the bottom of the left side of the screen.

If the Version is earlier than 8.0 you will need to download a new version. Email your request for the download link to tech@acsco.com

Annual Renewal

Licenses are registered for a period of approximately 1 year and must be renewed. Refer to the section on Checking the Expiration Date to determine your expiration date

Annual maintenance is included for the first year with the purchase of Timer Pro Professional licenses. The license that was attached in PDF format to the purchase email (which provided your download instructions) indicates your maintenance period and the current renewal date.

Please note that this date is the based on the purchase date and is not affected by the day you install or register the product.

Approximately one month prior to the renewal date, the main contact person in your organization will receive via email the maintenance invoice for the coming year.

If you elect not to continue on the maintenance for program you will be responsible for maintaining a backup copy of the installation program should you need to reinstall for any reason.

The annual maintenance renewal date will remain the same regardless of where in the annual cycle these payment are made.

If you are not currently on the maintenance program and want to reactivate your licenses you may be requried to purchase the product again at the prevailing price.

If you are using fewer licenses than your original purchase you may elect to maintain only the needed licenses at the renewal time. You may be required to uninstall the non-maintained licenses at that point. If you wish to use more licenses in the future they will need to be re-purchased.

Removing / Moving a License to a New PC

VERSION 9.5 OR LATER

If you need to remove a license from a PC (typically to move it to a new PC) you may do so by choosing the Register / Uninstall option on the Timer Pro main menu.

Once you run the Uninstaller the system will be inactive but all your data will be preserved.

Removing Only: The license will be released for reuse.

Moving the License: You may now install the software on a new PC and register that PC. Note: for companies with a large number of licenses, if the license you free up is used to register another PC before you do you will be advised that all licenses are in use. You may contact us for details to assist you.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VERSION 9.0 OR EARLIER

If you need to remove a license from a PC (typically to move it to a new PC) you may do so by running the UNINSTALLER.EXE located in the C:\timerpalm folder. If the file is not found you may download the UNINSTALLER.EXE here:

Download Uninstaller.EXE

Once you run the Uninstaller the system will be inactive but all your data will be preserved. The TPROLIC.TXT file will be modified to indicate that the license is no longer active.

Removing Only: Email the modified TPROLIC.TXT to tech@acsco.com. We will mark this PC as deactivated and release the license

Moving the License: Email the modified TPROLIC.TXT to tech@acsco.com. We will mark this PC as deactivated and release the license. Then follow the standard installation process on the new PC including sending the TPROLIC.TXT from the new machine to tech@acsco.com. If you are not on the maintenance program you will need to reinstall from a previously downloaded file. If you are on the maintenance program you may request the link to download the latest version.

Reformatted / Decommissioned a PC

Before you reformat or surrender your PC you must uninstall the software so that it can be re-registered on the reformatted or new PC.

Recreating the TPROLIC.TXT file

If your TPROLIC.TXT file becomes corrupt or has been replaced by a TPROLIC.TXT file from another

computer in error, delete the existing file, start the Video Time Study program once and it will be recreated. Check that the date is the current date and send the file to tech@acsco.com for processing.

1 Delete the TPROLIC.TXT file and start the Video Time Study program once to create it. Zip and send the TPROLIC.ZIP file to tech@acsco.com
2 Zip and send the TPROLIC.ZIP file to tech@acsco.com
3 Check your spam filter to locate the returned email and follow the instructions.
4 Call Tech Support at 303-220-0130
5 You may be trying to install without Admin rights. If so, call your internal tech support for installation assistance. The Admin must insure the user has been given Read/Write access to the c:\timerpalm folder and that the user has access to register components to the registry.

If the user logs on and does not see the 3 desktop icons that should install automatically you can manually add them to the desktop:
Timer Pro - points to C:\TimerPalm\TPFileCab.exe

Video Timer Pro - points to C:\TimerPalm\TimerProPC.exe

Process Analysis - points to C:\TimerPalm\Tpro.exe

If you still require assistance call Tech Support at 303-220-0130

6 Delete the excel.pth file located in the timerpalm folder in the C drive

Video Issues

Automation errors, blank video screens and inconsistent playback is usually a memory, setting, codec or service pack related issue.

Check Settings

Ensure your have XP Service Pack 2 installed. Run a Hardware Setting Adjustment Test. Right click on Desktop and get Display Properties Menu - Select Settings - then select advanced - then select trouble shoot. NOTE THE CURRENT SETTING AS YOU MAY NEED IT TO RESET. Move the Hardware Acceleration Slider all the way to the left (the message will be Disable all cursor and advanced accelerations etc.). Click Apply. Test the new setting with the program. If it does NOT make any difference you may wish to reset this option to the previous setting.

Install the QuickTime player. You can download it from:

http://dc232.4shared.com/download/311834608/a9720c95/QuickTimeInstaller.exe?tsid=20100610-073928-66a8fd44

Check your version of Windows Media Player. Start Media Player and click Help  / About Windows Media Player. If you do not have at least Version 9 please update to the latest Media Player.

Codec Controls

If your videos appear to play but no picture being displayed or video at the wrong speed, freezing etc. there is usually a memory, hardware setting, media player or Codec related issues. A Codec is the instructions used to play a video file on a computer. Due to the proliferation of video downloads many codecs arrive on a users machine without the user being aware of what is happening behind the scenes. There are many flavors of Codec for any video file format - avi, MPG, MPEG etc and they differences can cause display problems.

Action

Load  the XP Codec Service Pack 2.0.5 ( http://www.acsco.com/seminartrainingrecordings.htm)
Scroll down to the section marked "Video Codec Updates". Point at the first file - XP Codec Pack 2.0.5.zip. Click the right mouse button and select the option Save Target As.
Save the file to your PC (We recommend saving it into the C:\TimerPalm). Unzip the file and run the program and then restart the Video Timer Pro.

Unicode Error

If you are on the maintenance program and are entitled to download the latest version please send an email to tech@acsco.com requesting the download details.

If you are not on the maintenance program:

1. Go to the C:\TimerPalm and locate the file TPFileCab.exe - rename this file to TPFilecab1.exe. (This is the file causing the Unicode error message)

2. Download TPFILECAB.ZIP and unzip the contents (TPFilecab.exx) into the C:\TimerPalm folder.

(Note -  the .exx extension is to help us get through firewalls to block .exe files.)

3. Go to the C:\TimerPalm and locate the file TPFileCab.exx - rename this file to TPFilecab.exe.

The program will now work as expected without the Unicode message.

Running on Vista / Windows 7

Turn off the Access Control Feature

To install Timer Pro Professional on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating system, you must turn off the User Access Control feature. Please download the Instruction Document for full details.

Clients Who are Using a PDA

Do not install Active Sync from the disk that comes with the PDA. These operating systems do not use Active Sync and if loaded an incompatible version of MS Outlook will be installed that will cause Outlook to malfunction.

If you are using Timer Pro Professional with a PDA you must install Windows Mobile Device Center from Microsoft. Here is the link to download it:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx

Once done, you will be able to communicate between the PDA and PC.

Windows 7 64 Bit Support

We are aware that many clients are upgrading from XP to Windows 7. A small percent are moving directly to the 64 bit version of Windows 7.  We have the 64 bit configuration in house and have been evaluating its use with Timer Pro.

As background, Microsoft Office 2010 for Window 7 offers the option of support for 32 bit or 64 bit operation. Basically 32 bit computing has been around for many years and is a stable environment – XP is a 32 bit operating system. 64 bit computing is certainly the future but it may take some time to stabilize the environment. Please see the following article that summarizes the current situation:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/197415/beware_of_office_2010s_64bit_shortcomings.html

Here is a synopsis on its impact on Timer Pro:

Office 2010 64-bit has all of the hallmarks of a traditional Microsoft "version 2.0" product -- it works, but not like it should, and it doesn't play well with others. Wise folks will wait until version 3.

Given our current evaluation we have to agree with this assessment.

While many issues are raised in the 64 bit version of Office that you may wish to consider, in Timer Pro the main areas of impact that we have identified so far is that the 64 bit version of Excel 2010 handles macros differently than previous versions. Our tests also indicate that the macros also work inconsistently compared to the 32 bit version of Excel.

In addition Microsoft has provided no support for Pocket PC operating system other than Windows Mobile in the 64 bit version of the operating system. The support for Pocket PC is available in the 32 bit version.

We estimate that the lack of ability to support older Pocket PC operating systems would directly impact over 400 of our registered users.

We have limited development resources and have outlined above the plans that we believe will add significant add value to all clients use of Timer Pro.

Given the issues reported in the 64 bit version of Excel 2010 in Excel Macro handling area and the complete lack of support for older PDA devices:

AT THIS TIME WE ARE NOT PLANNING ON PUTTING THE DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES INTO MAKING TIMER PRO COMPATIBLE WITH THE CURRENT WINDOWS 7, 64 BIT BUILD.

WE RECOMMEND RUNNING TIMER PRO ON WINDOWS 7 32 BIT.

There can be little doubt that Microsoft is aware of these issues and will address them as future version updates. We will of course review these updates and revisit our support plans at that time.
